Hello, I support the WordPress site for a client, and we are getting ready to do a fall maintenance sprint. One of my tasks will be to make any updates necessary to make sure that the Instagram Feed continues working through the December API deprecation. I just wanted to confirm my understanding of a few points about your free plugin so I can make sure to plan accordingly:

Currently, we have a non-business account, so the plugin is using the Instagram Public API, which will no longer work by the end of Dec, correct?

In order for the Instagram account to have access to the new Graph API, it must be converted to a business account. At that point, assuming we’re on the latest version of your plugin, will it seamlessly transition to using the new API and thus avoid any disruption come Dec? We don’t have a planned deployment for several months after Dec, so I’d prefer if we can make all necessary changes now so that we won’t have to do anything when the changes happen.

    Thanks in advance!
    Jesse

    Hey Jesse,

You are correct that we haven’t transitioned to the new API yet. We do have approval so we will be sometime before the deadline. You can then continue to use the plugin as long as you make your Instagram account a business account like you are aware of.

As far as a seamless transition, it will likely require upgrading to the latest version of the plugin and you or your client retrieving a new access token (most likely just clicking a big blue button on the “configure” tab). Beyond that we don’t anticipate any other steps but will know more closer to the deadline.

Hopefully this answers your question! Let me know if you have more though.

Great, thanks. Do you have any idea when you’ll know the release of the updated version of the plugin? We normally only do two deployments a year for resource reasons, so if we need to schedule a minor one for a plugin update it’ll help knowing as far in advance as possible so we can have it on the calendar.

    Thanks for the speedy response!

    Hey Jesse,

Actually it seems that the old API will continue to work until 2020. We are likely going to continue to use the old API for the free version until then as it will continue to work with business accounts and non business accounts.

So no worries for now! If anything changes we can update the forum.
