• Hi,

I just realized that when using the wp editor I cannot insert the pipe | character. It seems that when trying to insert special characters that require [alt]+[shift]+[letter] on a Mac, the wp editor considers them as shortcuts to enable such or such function, rather than plain characters. In the case of [alt]+[shift]+[l] (the way we make the pipe) the editor takes it as a ‘justify left’ instruction.

I have deactivated all plugins to see if this could come from one of them, but it kept the same. I have tried with a basic wp theme, same result.

How can we deactivate this weird behavior so that we can fully use special characters in wp editor?

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

The WP editor keyboard shortcuts seem to be getting in the way. Could you try adding the pipe in the text editor rather than the visual editor? That should fix the problem. It could be possible to modify the plugin to use another character rather than the pipe, however then it’s not quite the same as MediaWiki etc which is the entire point of this plugin :/ If you need further instructions on changing the pipe to another character then give me a buzz and let me know which character you’d like to replace the pipe and I can send you info on how to do it. Thanks for supporting my plugin and for letting me know about this problem!

    Hi Lisa,

Thank you so much. Yes, the pipe serves for your wonderful plugin and I don’t think we should change anything there. WP editor shouldn’t use special characters as control characters, it affects not only the pipe sign but also many other accentuated characters used in other countries.

So I would rather use the text editor or cut/paste than changing anything in your plugin. Thanks for your support Lisa!
