• Hi,

It seems options for the text blocks have changed with the most recent version of the page editors.

I’m trying to insert a check (ascii &#10004) into a text block. Oddly enough, the editor shows the check mark, but when I update the page and load it in the browser, it just shows the ascii code on the page instead of the character.

Frustrating that it shows the special character in the preview, but not on the final page.

Is there a way to get this to work without a plugin? I’ve already sworn off plugins after a php plugin didn’t update their code with WP’s latest update and ruined a week’s work.

You need to be in the editor’s text mode to insert something like that.

I’ve tried every version of the editor there is: Classic, Editor, Backend Editor, Front End Editor – no luck.

I had upgraded to WP’s beta editor, but it is a massive disappointment.

I found a/the solution. You have to add the special characters in text mode, but you have to save the page and update it in visual mode. Otherwise you get the special character code and not the special character. Grrrr….

Wordpress’ bias against adding code to pages is absolutely ridiculous, as are the clunky, hackish workarounds and contortions you have to go through to get the simplest of things accomplished.

I had disabled visual editing because it kept stripping javascript from my pages, so now I need to go check that it hasn’t broken something else on this page.
