Inserting more pictures/text ina theme

I have just started trying to work out how WP works and uploaded a theme “Adventure Journal”. Now, just to see how things are done, I want to insert a picture (any picture) and text so that the page looks exactly as the uploaded theme on the Manage Themes tab.

How is that done?
