• Recently on a WP update, the behavior of the Insert/Edit Link button changed…in the past, when you clicked that you’d get a dialog where you could put in the URL, link text, a checkbox to open it in a new tab, etc.

But since the update, when you click that button you get a little pop-up that only shows you a place to paste in a URL…with none of those options. If you want to get to those options, you have to click the settings icon…

THIS IS MAGNIFICENTLY AGGRAVATING! I can’t even describe how infuriating this has become. For me personally, I virtually never want to just paste in a link and go – 99% or more of the time I want to check the option to have it open in a new tab. And now I have to click twice to get to that option, where it used to take one click. As you can see, this fills me with rage.

Is there some way to make WP stop doing that…and just open the full dialog like it used to in the past? I’m going to go postal on somebody…

  • Have you tried any other editors?

I have not tried any other than Visual Composer and the stock WYSIWYG

Maybe TinyMCE Advanced editor does what you are looking for

No…TinyMCE doesn’t change the behavior of the link button, and I don’t want a different editor anyway.

I just want the link button to behave in a reasonable manner.

I’m ready to kill something over this!

What’s the friggin’ answer?!? How do I get the big popup back?!?

As if life isn’t hard enough…

I’m with you brother…unfortunately I have no answer.

I truly can’t even comprehend how anyone thinks this change was a good idea. One of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen someone do…
