• Highlighting text in the visual editor and clicking on the insert/edit link button doesn’t do anything.

After inspecting the element. I found the div that holds the button. I see the “display: none” is still on the div and the styles tag is empty. So it appears that the JavaScript that toggles on/off to hide and display isn’t working properly. Basically not turning it on.

Funny thing is. That “Add media” button is working. And if I click that, and then close, and click the insert/edit link button. It works.

    It’s not a plugin issue.
    Can someone assist?

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Alright. I can do that. In the meanwhile – Do you think there is another alternative route that can fix this issue?

No, you’ll have to start by identifying the cause of the issue first, which is what the steps above will do.

Once you know, we’ll proceed from there.

I don’t know if this helps anyone else, but I was having this problem. My insert/edit link didn’t work. In fact, most of my buttons didn’t work. It turned out that I had added Twitter to my SNAP notifications. It removed it and everything started working again.

Hope that helps someone. Now I have to figure out how to make Twitter notifications play nice with the rest of my site.

Hey James. Sorry for the delay but deactivating the plugins didn’t work for me!

Does it work if you temporarily switch to the Twenty Sixteen theme?

    Thread Starter chapman2016

    (@chapman2016)

No, because this site has no other themes available in ‘Appearances > Themes’. What’s the next alternative route I can attempt?

    Moderator James Huff

    (@macmanx)

At Appearance -> Themes -> Add New, search for, install, and activate the Twenty Sixteen theme. Next, see if you have the same issue or not under the Twenty Sixteen theme, and finally switch back to your preferred there.

Then, of course, please report your findings here. ??

Unfortunately switching themes isn’t an option. (I would like to but it’s being fight against to.) Can we skip this step.

You can safely change back once you check. It’s a necessary troubleshooting step. As mentioned, “theme functions can interfere like plugins.”
