insert/add data lists

  • Hi all,
    I am making educational site in WP and this is my beginning in WP using theme WPzoom Academica,
    now I want to insert data about universities/institutes (university name,city,description) and that should be searchable also,
    any idea how should I get it done?
    should I use POSTS for every university?
    or any other method?
    how can I make new category (not from admin panel) which will have my required attributes for uni/instt??
    Please Help.
