Hello guys, i am creating a blog where i’ll be having lots of images on my posts, my question is where should i upload those images? i meant to say when creating posts when you click add media, there are two options:

    1. upload files (insert media)
    2. Insert from URL

my question is should i upload my images to https://www.postimage.org and then insert the url to wordpress post? will that make my site load faster? or better?

or should i upload directly to wordpress? also where do my uploaded images are stored? are they stored on wordpress? or on my hosting account/plan? if they are stored on my hosting account then uploading images on free photo uploading sites via inserting the url would be better? as there will be less load on my hosting?

please help, tell me which option is better? to upload on wordpress or upload on a free photo sharing site then inserting the url to wordpress?

    Thanks.

    Choose the first option.

When you upload image files to WordPress, WP will automatically create thumbnails in a variety of sizes. It will then serve these when a full-size image is not needed, saving bandwidth, server load, and load time.

You could go with your second option, but what happens when postimage.org goes down (as Facebook tends to do)? What happens if they get hacked? What happens if they get sold, change their terms of service, or just go away (as GeoCities did)? You are much better off keeping your photos on your site. (And these are image you own the copyright to, I presume?)

Also, some image sliders will not work with images that are not stored on your own server.

also where do my uploaded images are stored?

In your /wp-content/uploads/ directory inside your WordPress install.

Thank you so much Kjodle for the awesome answer, it really helped…regarding uploaded images storing location, i was asking if they are stored on my hosting?

Yes, they are stored on your website, in the directory I mentioned above. So if you add a lot of images, it will take up space on your account.

Some hosts do also offer a CDN option (cheaper storage, cheaper bandwidth) for storing images, and there are plugins that will allow you to use images from your own CDN. I’m not sure how well they will work with image slider plugins, however.

I have a transfer volume limit on my server host, my question is:

when I upload files to my wordpress account and then post them (insert media), the volume is obvious,

but when I use external storage and insert URL, does the size of the file add to the transfer volume or do they load directly from the other host, e.g. facebook and use up their volume?
