I got your plugin because I want to be able to search the Media Library when I want to reuse old images. The default search in WordPress only searches for file names, so your plugin’s ability to search the Alt Text field is exactly what I need.

If I go to set a Featured Image, I have a search media box and all of the options that come with your plugin. However, when I do a regular Insert Media, there is no search box of any kind.

Is there something I need to do to fix this?

Thanks for the good words – I’m happy you find the enhanced search capability useful.

Both the Featured Image and the Insert Media windows are part of the Media Manager Modal Window (MMMW). There is no standard way to extend the MMMW toolbar, and there are conflicts among plugins that add controls to it. One thing you can check is for other plugins that add features to the toolbar. Here are some earlier support topics on MMMW issues:

MLA and ACF image upload conflict

    category selection when uploading media

Hide edit cat and tags in media manager

    Problem with Simplefields

filter not showing in modal popup window for image

Plugins with known issues include Advanced Custom Fields, Media Categories, Simple Fields and Image Widget.

Another thing to consider is the width of your MMMW display. If you make the window too narrow, the search box moves down underneath the attachments thumbnails area and becomes invisible. Make sure you have a wide enough window to make room for all the controls.

Finally, you can disable the MLA enhancements and verify that the standard WordPress search box appears in the window. You can also disable the MLA enhanced search box but leave the other controls in place. That might narrow down the problem.

I am changing the way MLA interacts with the MMMW in my next release, and there’s a small chance my improvements will help resolve your issue. If you’d like to test the improvements I make, please send me a note with your e-mail address and I will give you a copy by return e-mail. You can use the Contact Us page at our web site:

That was the issue. My main, 27″ monitor is set to 2560 x 1440, so I used have of the screen for my browser and the other half can be used for a second browser window or whatever else I might need for when I’m working on things. I had to expand my browser screen about 2″ before the search box appeared.

So, the plugin is of use to me for sure. For now, I can maximize the browser if I need to do a proper image search.

If you could make it in a future release so that the search box doesn’t disappear when the window is in a narrower setting, that would be awesome. ^_^

Thanks for the update and the good news regarding the simple solution for hidden search box.

I agree that it would be awesome to have a better way of handling narrow windows, but the overall composition of the Modal Window is managed by WordPress and I tread carefully when making “improvements”. It’s even more fun when several different plugins try to improve things for their own purposes without any way of knowing what their neighbors are doing ??

I have released version 1.80, which should resolve the issue of “hiding” the search box in narrow browser windows.

Please let me know if you are still having this problem with the new version. Thank you for your patience.
