• While writing a new post, all at once the insert-link stopped working – it became grayed out. (It had worked fine before.) (The theme is Manifest.)

    https://remembered-gate.net/wp-admin/post-new.php

Here are the steps I took to try to fix it:

    • Trying to insert a link with and without either selected
      page text for the anchor,
    • with and without the link url on my clipboard
    • Deleting and rewriting the text in that part of the post
    • Trying to insert the link in another part of the post
    • Trashing the post and beginning another post
    • Checking for the insert-link function in another site with WordPress installed but with a different theme (Twenty Ten) – same problem there
    • deactivating and reactivating plug-ins (I only have two” Akismet and jetpack
    • uninstalling and reinstalling the theme (Manifest)
    • reinstalling WordPress
    • Searching here and through Google. I couldn’t find anything on point, except for mention of a Plug-in link. I haven’t installed that because the inset function had worked before without the plug-in
    • I’m at a loss.

This is a MAJOR bug. Without an insert button you can’t have a weblog. Links are the point.

      Please help.

Did you deactivate all your plugins and active the Twenty Ten theme together?

I just tried that. No dice.

Here’s something that did work, although it’s a godawful kludge: I wrote text with a hyperlink inserted in Word, and pasted into the WordPress edit window, and that worked.

    Go figure.

I have the same problem when using the “Visual” tab for editing, so the link button is grayed out and does not work. When I use the “Text” tab for editing, the whole row of editing options, including the hyperlink button are gone suddenly.

But here’s the even stranger part: When I open and start working on a new post, everything is there and the link buttons work. But once I add Tags to the post, then the editing buttons in the “Text” tab disappear and the link button in the “Visual” tab stops working.

This problem just started happening, so I’m wondering if it is a bug in the latest WordPress upgrade. Anyone have any ideas?

FYI, I went through my Plugins and found that my Page Speed plugin was causing the problem that made the editing buttons disappear or not work. I’m not sure why the problem started suddenly.

So, if you have that plugin, you might try deactivating it again (even though I realize you tried deactivating plugins already). Good luck.
