Initial Edits

Hey all,

First time wordpress user here with a very simple question. How do I change the text in my custom theme? I know uploading media may require a permission change (755, etc.), but am I mistaken in believing that I should be able to change the text and headers that come with my custom theme without any permission change?

Any and all clarification is much appreciated!
