In a concrete case, I wish to get rid of a word “category” in categories. And from a word “date” in archives.

As it has appeared to change structure of references, it is not enough to make some changes in .htaccess, data about permalinks register still some – where.

Nu, here is the problem: you cannot take out the word “category” from the permalink, it is inserted automatically. But you can have another word – if you write it in the category field on the Permalinks setting page in admin panel.

In the permalinks for posts you don’t need the word “date”.

As I know that instead of a word “category” I can replace with any another. But it does not arrange me.

Macrosubstitutions do not help.

As it works now you must have something for category permalink: “category” (by default) or what you define in the Options > Permalinks > category base.
You can not eliminate this.
Example:
example.com/category/mycategory1 – this will work.
but this one:
example.com/mycategory1 – will not work, because WordPress “thinks” this is a Page and will give you 404.
