Hi, I’m having an intermittent issue with Safari and the ability for the PayPal payment options to load properly we just see a continuos spinning wheel over the elements. This is happening across multiple websites for us. On one website (but not the others), we also have Stripe active and this option is able to load fine, it just seems to be anything tied to PayPal Payments.

This does appear to be an intermittent issue and I believe it presents itself under certain conditions as we have some people using Safari without issue. For me, on testing, the issue seemed to arise when I moved out of the checkout page to another window and then back in. It appears to try to reload the elements but without success so just hangs infinitely. I have tried clearing cache/data on the iPhone to see if this resolves but no luck so far.

I’ve tried the same situations on an iPhone using the Chrome app and that was fine so it does appear to be linked to Safari only. This is always what customers are using when they are having issues.

Could really use some help on trying to diagnose what’s happening here as it’s not making much sense to me.

    Thanks

    Hi @fortif3

From the plugin perspective, it doesn’t really matter which browser is used. More often, the difference is that you may be logged in with one browser but not with the other.

Have you also tried clearing your cookies or using a private tab?
We are not seeing any issues directly related to mobile Safari browsers, but it’s possible that older versions of this browser may not be compatible with the PayPal smart buttons.

A copy of your system report and more information about the iOS version you are using would help us better understand your setup and identify potential issues. The system report can be accessed from here:
WooCommerce > Status > Get system report > Copy for support
You can share the report with us either here in the forums or privately?from here, if you prefer. If sending privately, please include a link to this thread for context.

    Thank you!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Hi Niklas,

Thanks for your response. After some testing, I’ve determined what I believe to be the issue but I’m not sure how to resolve it without asking customers to disable a default setting on their device.

I believe this is being caused by increased privacy measures on Safari, specifically the Hide IP Address from Trackers setting. When deactivated and set to Off, the checkout buttons appear to load without issue. I’ve repeated this action on another iPhone belonging to a friend with the same successful results.

Could it be possible that PayPal is using a tracker and is requesting an IP address from the device which Safari is then disallowing, thus causing an infinite loading cycle?

    Thanks.

    Hi @fortif3

On my test iPhone, the Hide IP Address setting for Safari is set to From Trackers. And I don’t encounter any problems of this kind on this device.

But we can’t rule out that browser extensions blocking PayPal scripts could potentially interfere with the PayPal payment process.

Could you maybe share with us a link to your website? A copy of your system report would be even better as it helps us better understand your setup.

    Thank you!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
