• Was prompted to install upgrade upon trying to access my blog today. Went thru the steps and hit login after receiving my login name and pw but was rerouted to the original screen that prompted me to do the 5 min install. I did a manual upgrade, unzipped and tried again. No dice. I get error msgs in the code as it’s upgrading but it says Success! when it’s done and generates a pw. I am unsure what’s going on here but I’m seriously hoping I won’t have this problem for long as I was working on a post the last couple days and would like to finish it soon.

    Thanks.

OH yeah and I have yet to receive any email confirmation. Nor have I obviously been able to go through the upload everything step since I cannot access my blog at all.

    Thanks again.

Only initial installation generates a password, Upgrading does not.

How to access your blog and do a upgrade and got a generated password???

    Please re-phase your question.

Thx for the quick reply. Sorry. I went thru the upgrade process but was unable to login. I just get redirected to the upgrade page. I then attempted the manual download and attempted the upgrade again. I went thru the steps for the 5 min install but am not sure what to do about the upload step and anything beyond that pretty much.

I assume that you are installing WordPress for the first time, since you are talking about the five minute install.

You should download the latest copy of WordPress, which is version 2.9.1 to install on your hosting server. If you install the latest version you will not be prompt for any WordPress upgrade or database upgrade.

    Hope this helps!

Well unfortunately this is not my first time. I have an established blog linked to my JustHost acct website. I was using it last night! Today when I hit my home tab which takes me to the blog I was prompted by the 5 min install. Now on this particular laptop I’m using I had never downloaded WP software and just used my access to the dashboard to make changes to the site/blog. I have since downloaded the latest version and am still unable to access the blog. I am guessing there is some step I’m missing that should allow me to gain access to my blog. I am just hoping what was previously posted and saved in the dashboard is lost.

I also received the prompt to upgrade using the 5 min install from a different laptop that did have the old software on it. Hope this adds clarity to the issue and gets us closer to a solution.

When u say to install it on my host server are you suggesting I go to the html code for my justhost account and add some of the code I downloaded in this new version to the tab that sends me to the blog? Hope that made sense. Thanks again

Now I assume that you had installed a blog, which is working well. You login to your WordPress Admin and got a message prompting you to upgrade to WordPress 2.9.1
You clicked the link and proceed on with the upgrade. After the upgrade you cannot log into your WordPress Admin.

    Is this correct?

If it is so, you may need to do manual upgrade. Download and unzip a copy of 2.9.1 on your desktop and ftp over the copy on your hosting server. Make sure the file and folder structures are correct. If you still cannot access, you may need to delete your plugin and themes, except the default theme. You may also be prompt to upgrade your database after you login to your WordPress Admin.

Lastly, I do not know what you mean by home tab that sends you to your blog. And accessing you blog whether through your desktop or laptop makes no difference.

    Hope it helps.

This is correct except that I am not only unable to login but I am also rerouted to the original upgrade page.

I am currently trying to figure out what all I need to copy into my host server. How do I determine whether the file and folder structures are correct?

Use your ftp to access your hosting server, navigate to your WordPress files. If you see wp-config.php together with wp-login.php and a bunch of files and three folders, namely wp-content, wp-admin and wp-includes.
Then you are in the WordPress folder.

Navigate into wp-content and download your themes and plugins folder to your desktop as backup.

Unzip a copy of WordPress 2.9.1 navigate into the unzipped folder to find wp-login.php

Now you are on the same structure level as your hosting server copy.
ftp all the files and folders to overwrite those on your hosting server. Make sure the ftp program prompt you for overwriting the files.

You should have safely completed your manual upgrade. Try login to WordPress Admin, you maybe prompt to upgrade your database. Just click and follow instructions.

    Hope it helps.

As a last resort, you can go to WordPress Help Center https://wphelpcenter.com/ and hire them to do it for you.

    I am going offline now.

So I’m not sure what files I need to be uploading or exactly where. I am able to use the file mgr on my host server to upload anything I want. I have uploaded the wp-ocnfig-php file as instructed on the 5 min install. I also uploaded the entire zipped version 2.9.1 as well. Please help with any info you have as to what all I need to be uploading and where exactly.
