• After upgrading to 1.2, all I’m getting out of my blog is <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "https://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="https://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    <head profile="https://gmpg.org/xfn/1">
    <title>

    And that’s as far as the index.php goes.
    I’ve checked and everything seems to be there, so anyone have any ideas?
    I can’t log in to check because it keeps throwing me back to the login screen and I’ve deleted my cookies, etc. etc.
    This has been one bad experience for me when upgrading because I’m not a programmer like the rest of you.

  • Have you tried to log into the admin with another browser? Have you had it email you the password? I’d say the first step is getting access to WP again and then go for index.php.

    Yep, tried it in Netscape, tried it in IE, had it send me new password, etc.
    Guess maybe I’m screwed?

    I ended up putting up an index.htm file instead of the https://www.silverblue.org/wp/index.php file since you can’t access my blog anyway…

    I ended up deleting the entire WP directory and reloading 1.02 from the backup I had.
    Now, when someone can explain to me how I can deal with 1.2 doing this strage thing where it wouldn’t let me log in and wouldn’t process the index.php file, I’ll upgrade.
    Otherwise, I may have to look at leaving WP. The upgrade path stinks, IMHO.

    Just tried your site with ‘index.php’ and it loads just fine for me. Mozilla 1.7rc(something). Really sounds like a browser/cookies/something on your end problem.

    Looks like he’s back on 1.0.2

    I had a few hairpulling moments myself. But that was because I had seen fit when I first started playing with WP to muck around with the index.php file. Got that straightened out.
    Two things….
    1. Did you by chance change your password from within the WP admin console before upgrading? Because if you did, you can’t use that new password. You have to use the original userid and password from when you first installed WP. Once I learned that (there’s a thread about it here; just search using the words “cannot login”), I was able to login with no problem.
    2. Did you run upgrade.php once you copied the new files to your server? If you skip that step, it may cause problems. (Sometimes the devil is in the details.)
    Hope this helps.

    In response:
    (1) Yes, I did have the password from within Wp but no longer have the “original, original” password from back when I first installed 1.02. The original user id, “admin” I’m still using, so… I’ve been scouring but can’t find the paper I write that short code on. Found it, so I’ll try it in a minute.
    (2) Yep, did that. So, now I’m off to try to load 1.2 again and see what happens.

    Went and deleted all 1.02 files (except wp-config and database). Re-upped all 1.2 files, and low and behold, it worked. Index.php still wouldn’t work (think there was something hokey in the 1.02 version I had, so I used the 1.2, and then did a mod on it so that my links, etc. were there. Works fine now.
