• I am not sure if this is where to put this. I think i have a serious problem with my site and not sure what tools to use to try and solve the problem to find out what the problem is, and if google can reach my site. Sorry, not very technical.

    I have a serious indexing problem and not sure how to solve it.

    I will give you an example. This page here and this is just one of the examples is not showing correctly.

    What i mean is, if i put in Grimsby News it does not come up but that is not the problem. What is the problem is, when i put in the name of the site in2town and then put in grimsby news, ex in2town grimsby news, it brings up the home page and not the correct page.

    I have had the site for over ten years and there has never been a problem but I paid a freelancer who has now been banned from the freelancing platform to do some work on my site. But then everything went wrong.

    I am trying to find out what technical problem there is and what tools to use to trace the problem. I am using rankmath seo plugin but they have not been any help. I am trying to find out with any article or page that i put in google with the site name in front why that post of page is showing up in google as the home page.

    can anyone please point me in the right direction to see what the problem is. thanks

  • Hi, it is not directly a WordPress issue.

    But my advice is to register your site with the free Google Search Console and use that to analyse what is going on / ask google to re-index etc

    https://search.google.com/search-console/about

    From the point of view of WordPress, everything looks ok on the site. However, I notice that you have not marked the title “Grimsby News” as h1 but as h2. This is definitely a disadvantage in terms of findability. It’s best to change that.

    You also asked your question in the Google Search Community, which is much better suited for this: https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/269722435/serious-indexing-problem-can-anyone-help?hl=en – wait there for suitable answers would be my recommendation.

    thank you everyone. I was just trying to see if there was an error with the robot file or anything else related to wordpress that could be wrong. as mentioned everything was working fine but then hired a person on a freelancing platform to do some work and then things went wrong. that person was banned as lots of people complained about the same issue and even put a backdoor on websites. So i was trying to find out if there was some sort of technical issue that is causing the problem that is not allowing google now to reach my site.

    can i check if this code is correct before my head code

    <!doctype html > <!--[if IE 8]> <html class="ie8" lang="en"> <![endif]--> <!--[if IE 9]> <html class="ie9" lang="en"> <![endif]--> <!--[if gt IE 8]><!--> <html lang="en-GB" prefix="og: https://ogp.me/ns#"> <!--<![endif]-->

    i am asking because when i check the page source of my site i am seeing code from 1-4 that i do not recognize and from 11-15 and also 50-53

    The code is perfectly fine. Please note my comment above about the title. This is really relevant.

    also note my comment, Google Search Console will tell you definitively if there is a technical issue with Google reaching or indexing anything.
