    Hi,
for a few months now I have been continuously receiving (on average every 5 minutes) login attempts like this
    a non-existent page https://visureclic.it/5tcwlmc3385cz/s_e-gBBRJxKM86a56af.dev
    26/6/2022 18:58:25 (3 minutes ago)
    IP: 66.249.64.17 Hostname: crawl-66-249-64-17.googlebot.com
    Human/Bot: Bot
    Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 6.0.1; Nexus 5X Build/MMB29P) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/102.0.5005.115 Mobile Safari/537.36 (compatible; Googlebot/2.1; +https://www.google.com/bot.html)

Through Search Console I immediately sent the sitemap of my site that did not and never contained bogus URLs like the one above.
However, the Search Console “Coverage” report itself detects a large amount of 5xx errors just for these strange nonexistent pages, which have no link to my site.
    What can it depend on?
Are these attempts really made by Googlebot or does the hostname look like it is not Google?
Could it happen that there are two sitemaps of my site: one created by me and a fake one that refers to my property?

    Thanks

    Giusy P.

Hi @visureclic, thanks for getting in touch.

Have you ever had to clean your site due to a past breach? It’s not uncommon for certain bots to try URLs that don’t exist in a “hit and hope” manner rather than check for vulnerable plugins or a specific vulnerability. However, this IP does appear to check out as a legitimate Google bot.

However, I have seen cases where a previously cleaned site still sees invalid URLs being hit by Google so that’s why I ask. Do you see any warnings or critical messages when running a Wordfence scan, or any suspicious files?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,
sorry for the late reply but I hadn’t received notification of your comment.

About 1 year ago the site was hacked but after cleaning it’s back to normal.

Regarding these strange URLs detected by GSC, I tried to get the external sites from which Googlebot should get the links.
But nothing. The backlink checker tools don’t report these URLs.
They look like links “invented” by Googlebot and I don’t understand where it goes to find them.
Having the site hosted on the cloud, I directly checked the files involved and didn’t detect any critical issues.
    No warning messages.
However, both Wordfence and GSC continue to report attempts to enter via these bogus URLs.
I add that Search Console classifies them as “Error 5xx” while in reality they would be “Error 404”, considering that the server responds well and refers to page 404 of the site.
I have been looking for a solution for several weeks but it seems to be my own problem. It’s possible?

    Thanks for the assistance

    Giusy P.
