Recently my client’s wordpress-based web site was hacked, and after hours and hours of clean-up, there’s one problem I can’t fix.

The index.php for the blog doesn’t work. It redirects to Tripod – a competitor of the actual web host (Dreamhost).

The redirect occurs whether the url ends with / or /index.php. I see nothing wrong with the index.php in that directory. I see nothing wrong with the files index.php calls. I’ve tried searching the whole site for the word “tripod” and I can’t find it.

I’ve looked at the .htaccess for both the top directory and the subdirectory with wordpress, and again I see nothing wrong. In both cases Mod Rewrite uses a relative URL.

In the directory for the blog, there is only an index.php, no index.htm/html

The web site is here. I’ve only left one link to the blog on the bottom of the home page – if you click that you will see the problem.

    Any ideas? ??

  • Would help immensley if we could see the site but you did not provide a link. Want to post one?
If it was hacked then maybe you did not clean everything up. Have you tried replacing the index.php with a fresh one from WP? Did you check what the default Page is set to in WP? Did you try replacing the existing index.php with just a basic html (non WP) version of index.php? Did you do a search of the database for tripod?

Hi there, thanks for the reply. Oops, I see I provided the link to the site instead of the blog page. The blog index page should be here.

I did try searching the DB for tripod, and I’m still looking for hacked files. This hacking occured a month after I installed 2.7.1 and took various security precautions, so obviously I missed something the first time. ??

The path to the Default Page is right in the Dashboard Settings. Is there also a file I should look at for this?

I haven’t tried replacing index.php because I don’t see any hack code in it, but I will give that a try.

Replacing index.php from a new copy of wordpress didn’t work. ??

I also suddenly got the option to automatically re-install with automatic update today (I didn’t seem to have that option yesterday – AU just told me I had the most current version). I did the re-install, and I’m still getting the Tripod page. ??

    Looks like you fixed it.

Yes, now it’s showing one post. I’m not sure at what point that one post started showing because I had to clean out my browser cache again. =/

Unfortunately it’s still broken because it only shows the latest post, not the index page with a list of blog posts. ??

    Fixed!

I had to deactivate two plug-ins:

WP-Email and WP-Print, both by Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan. Neither of these plug-ins were working correctly even though they showed as updated on the Plug-ins page. I’ll look for some other plug-ins to replace them.

Replacing the blog page reminded me that WP 2.7.1 ruined the font-size on my blogroll and link lists. More to fix. T_T

It looks to me like its the whole site anjd all blogs..

Might be the plugins were hacked. Get fresh copies. I have Never once had an issue with any of Lester’s plugins. Am a supporter of his. well worth it. And if you still have the problem ask him. He is very good.
