Index Page

Due to a security issue the previous webmaster of the site I am helping with created a page saying the site was taken down, he named the file Index so now every time we try to get the site to use the previous Home page we still get the Site down message. Can anyone please tell me how to remove this Index page and restore the previous Home page. The theme is Canvas. Thanks
