Independent Post type categories

Is there a simple of way of making the post categories independant from other post type categories. for example i have created a new post type called “companies”, this post type needs different categories to the default post type (“post”). However the categories when i go to the companies categories page in the admin panel are the same as teh default post type.

If i attempt to delete the categories from the companies categories, they are also removed from the default post type. So i’m assuming all post types share a common category list, which isn’t ideal for my situation.
