Increasing the "Compatible up to" version without a new tag?

  • As a plugin author, is it possible to increase the “Compatible up to” version of your plugin without creating a new tag/plugin version?

    Creating a tag every time WordPress gets a minor update seems like an unnecessary hassle…

    To answer my own question, you can change the readme.txt file in the current tag of the plugin and it will be updated on the site automatically without a new plugin release.
