• I’m not sure why, but even after using the Network Settings (multi-site installation on our own server), my ability to get PDF’s to work within the media library is nill. Getting a 500 error (on display), plus an inability to go above a 2MB file no matter what. I’m guessing there is an .INI file somewhere that needs tweaked behind the scenes (it would be nice if that “Network Setup” gadget included such code fixes).

Can you step me through the processes somehow for my technician to dig out (WIMP server) the right files, make one if needed, etc. This is a DIY server, not a hosted platform. Windows Server 2012(r2), using the Web Platform Installer, and whatever the latest download version that gave us is what we are using. If I need to be more specific on exact versions of php, MySql, etc., please tell me how to identify them. I’m somewhat tech savvy, but in over my head at the moment.

I took a snapshot of the Network Settings page, but can’t attach/paste anything here for additional help at your end of problem review. But I did this:
    UPLOAD SETTINGS
Site Upload Space: (set to 250MB)
Upload File Types: (I checked, and PDF is one type listed)
Max Upload File Size: (I set this to 256000kb)

The 2nd problem is that themes do NOT seem to be available on any of the sub-sites. It is set to be a sub-directory multi-site install. If you want to see it, please do me the dignity of a private e-mail (a.bolinger [at sign] shermaninstitute.net) so I don’t have the world seeing this mess until ready for public consumption. There are about 10 sites supposedly created, but nothing is working beyond the front pages of the primary site, and even they are a mass of confused links to things that aren’t coming up like WordPress sites should. Probably little tweaks I am missing, but I’m getting more gray hair being under timelines for this thing to function. We had a direct lightning strike destroy a previous server, so I have the wonderful job of rebuilding all these sites, pretty much from scratch.
    ~sigh~

    Hi Aaron!

Sorry you are having these issues.

Have you checked in Network Admin – Settings – Network Settings? About halfway down on that long page, there are some “Upload Settings”, that control which file types and sizes can be uploaded. That may all be in order, but that would be the first place to check.

For themes to be visible from subsite dashboards Appearance – Themes, those themes have to be network activated from the Network Admin Themes page. Double check that themes you are looking for our network activated, then look for them in a subsite.

While that might seem like a pain currently, being able to network deactivate themes and keep them hidden from subsite admins keeps those admins from changing themes on the site when you don’t want them to. ??

Also: while I have currently left your email address in, please be aware that it is not a wise idea to share any login credentials – while most folks have only the best intentions, you don’t want to open yourself up to any inadvertent errors in your network. Share screenshots at most. ??
