Incorrect user location after conversion
-
We found a big issue with the plugin and spent quite some time analyzing it today. I recorded a video exactly showing how it works and where the problem is. However, due to the data privacy, I’m not able to post the link to the recording here (unless many users request it).
Here’s the scenario:
1. A user is visiting a website https://www.domain.com/?utm_source=test-source&utm_medium=test-medium
2. Google Analytics is showing the correct location (city, state, country) of the user together with the correct source and medium
3. The user fills out the form and “Event Tracking for Gravity Forms” sends event data to Google Analytics
4. In Google Analytics there is no UTM info anymore (it’s showing no data) and most importantly it’s changing the location of the user to completely different state, city (and sometimes even country). Why is this an issue?
1. Google is showing more visits than it should, as once the user converted it started a new session
2. Location of users that converted (i.e. submitted forms) is incorrect so the collected Google Analytics data is useless
3. All UTM data is lost so it’s not possible to know which marketing channel actually works — again, the collected data is useless. How did we test?
1. I tested on multiple websites that have Gravity Forms and Event Tracking for Gravity Forms
2. To be sure, I disabled submission tracking on one of the forms and moved it to Google Tag Manager and it worked 100% correctly. I have done it 3x with different forms on different websites to make sure I’m getting accurate data.I will be happy to share the video recording with the support to present the problem.
