Incorporate GTranslate into the responsive header with front end language picker

I am inserting Gtranslate into my wordpress menu with the settings as on screenshot.
I would to use the same design of languages picker on the responsive version and I also want to insert the language picker in the header, not the hamburger menu.

Using “[gtranslate]” shortcode won’t help as for that to work I have to choose “Nice dropdown with flags” in the settings which will destroy my full screen look.

I have started reworking code, particularly the code from function gtranslate_menu_item($items, $args), but not sure if this is the right approach as what I have done is converting language items into responsive menu items. See the last screenshot.

Has anybody achieved this?
