I tried to adjust the child theme’s style.css and front-page.php yesterday, but the site suddenly started to load very slowly. I then reverted back to the old files but this did not solve the issue.

I initially thought that perhaps my host may be having issues but the main website cibsoc.co.uk (which is not on wordpress) is still loading very quickly.

The load speed is now incredibly consistent. A test I ran showed it took near 80s to load first byte, which is of course ridiculous, but as I said the main website still loads quickly so I’m unsure what the problem is.

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or have any ideas as to what could be causing this issue?

  • I believe you’ve sorted this out already?

The page loads instantly for me, and WebPageTest.org, GTMetrix.com, and Pingdom.com all consistently show TTFB of under one second (though there are still opportunities to improve the performance even further).

    Hi George,

Thanks a lot for taking a look. My webhost has just got in touch to say they faced some performance problems last night which affected my site, and I’ve also added in caching to hopefully mitigate against any problems in the future. Looks like it didn’t affect my main website as it was already on the server and I hadn’t changed it in a while.

I’ll now mark the topic is resolved.
