  • Hi Alkerion,

We reported this issue to the developer almost a year and a half ago, and even provided the code to fix the issue, and all communication attempts have been ignored. I wouldn’t expect a fix. I’d recommend switching to another plugin, such as WP Approve User.

    Hi Scott,

WP Approve User hasn’t been updated for more than two years, and this plugin doesn’t send mail to admin to prevent new user, quite useless for me.

I really hope someone who will develop a new plugin to provide such functionality.

By the way, thanks for the fix, I’ll apply it.

    Regards

    Hi Alkerion,

Ah, now that you mention it, I know why WP Approve User isn’t sending out the emails…an update in WordPress a few versions back made some changes with new user email functionality that broke a few plugins. We had to make changes to adjust for it too. I’ll see about putting a support request to the plugin dev. It would only need a small tweak to make it work again.

The reason we recommend WP Approve User is that we’ve audited code in both plugins, and WP Approve User is written by one of the WP Core Developers, and it does have quality code. It does need an update though…As you mentioned…not getting the emails would make it useless. Who knows…maybe we can create a fork of it if it doesn’t get updated.

You’re very welcome! Glad to help.

    Hi Scott,

Thanks a lot for your reply and support.

For my usage (and to my taste) New User Approve is simple and near perfect (a few settings and translation support are missing), better than WP Approve User, and this not only because it send mail to admin, but because there is a dedicated entry in admin panel for users to approve, and also better messages delivered to users.

I prefer to have a messages displayed on registering form and after post regarding the approval process rather than having an error message displayed when they try to connect to the site afterwards.

Sadly there isn’t a lot of plugin for user approval process, so I hope someone will fix the security issues and improve this plugin, something I’m unable to do.

    Hi Scott,

The fix you’ve provided doesn’t seems to work anymore.

I’ve tried it but I obtain the error :

Call to a member function get_error_code() on null

Seems to be due to this line :
    add_filter( ‘registration_errors’, array( $this, ‘show_user_pending_message’ ), 9999, 3 );

If I change 999 to 10 it doesn’t hang anymore, but user is not created and I doesnt receive any mail.

    Regards

I’d be happy to fix it.

@redsand sorry I didn’t see your fix. I’ll see what I can do to get it in an update.

I’m working on an update. I’ll see what I can do to get it in.

    @picklewagon

I’m glad to hear you’re working on a fix.

sorry I didn’t see your fix.

Forgive me if I remain a bit skeptical that you didn’t see our fix.

We reported the issue initially about a year and a half ago, and made over 10 attempts to contact you through the forums here and through your website, over the course of about 6 months. Each time we posted a support request here, you responded to support threads both before and after ours, which made it seem that you were making a point to ignore our contact attempts. If that’s not the case, then I’d be happy to hear it.

    Hi Josh !

Thanks for the little plugin update, sadly that doesn’t solve the biggest issues we have ??

Hope that you will fix them anytime soon.

    Thanks in advance

    Best regards

Would really appreciate this fix also as both plugins are important for our site!
Looking forward to having this work without errors.

    Hello there,

I just installed Spam Shield as well given that we have been receiving large amounts of spam registrations.

Now when a user signs up, none of the emails are sent to the registrant or to the administrator. Even if we go into the New User plugin and request for another email to be sent.

I deactivated Spam Shield and it is still not sending any emails anywhere.

What can I do to make it New User plugin work again?

(I rather have this work than Spam Shield which I have deactivated. )

    I appreciate your help!
