Incoming links in local MAMP server WP-installation?

What are the Incoming links in my local MAMP server WP-installation about? In one tutorial I found this quote: “you can now look at who else has installed wordpress on their local host lately with the pingback information under ‘Incoming Links’.”

Is that it? I was dabbling around a bit learning more about WP locally on my computer so these things pinging made me a bit confused, how could they “see it”?

If someone has the time to confirm there is no need to worry it would be much appreciated!
