Including Blog Elements On Homepage

Hello, I’m faily new to wordpress. I have installed and set up my wordpress in a folder called ‘blog’ in the root of my server. Now, in the home directory I have an index page, and it seems that none of the blog elements (ie. Search, or any posts, comments, etc. do not show up). Do I have to move my index page to the blog directory? or is there a certain set of php includes I should use to make this work? OR am I totally wrong?!?
