I install WordPress on many client sites i am building sites for. Now i am using a couple of plugins by default. I was wondering if it’s possible to add a couple of extra plugins to the WordPress installer. So i don’t have to install them each time by hand. Just like Hello Dolly and Akismet are included in the installer.

  • I would suggest that you add the plugins of your choice into the wp-content>plugins folder of the WordPress zip file. Then always use that zip file to install on your clients sites. You would need to manually activate the plugins, although it would save you from having to install them all.

The only other option would be to modify the core files to make it install like Hello Dolly. I don’t know exactly how or where that code is, although it is not recommended as it involves modifying the core files directly which can lead to lots of problems.

I think adding plugins to the wp-content>plugins is enough. It still got a safety net, because plugins need to be activated. But at least you won’t have to install them. And activating can be done with two clicks for all plugins if needed.
