I’m using NextGEN Gallery to organize my images in photo albums. Visitors may add comments to the photos, and the comments appear in WP Control Panel | Comments.
But they do not appear in my comment widget (Better Recent Comments). The same thing happens if I use the standard WP Comments widget.

I assume that there somehow is a difference between regular post comments and the NextGEN image comments.

Has anyone had the same experience? Anyone know if there is a work around?

    Hi @navipane and @andykeith

    Sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks Pierre for following up on this issue. I don’t have the skills to debug this issue either. And you may be absolutely right – the root cause of this may not be a bug in the NextGEN plugin. Although there are issues with the NextGEN image comments that undoubtedly have to do with the NextGEN code.

I will try the updated version of BRC and report back to you. I’m running WordPress 5.5.3 and PHP 7.4.11. But give me some time – I’m in the midst of a major project which at the moment is consuming all my time.

    Hi @andykeith and @pheisholt !

I did some tests, and it works fine ! ??
    Thank you Andy !!!

Will you add the features to the widget options ?

    Cheers !

    Pierre.

Hi @navipane, glad it works! Good news.

We’re not planning to add that feature to the widget, but will keep it in mind. It’s not always easy to find the time to devote to our www.remarpro.com plugins ??

So this is great to hear. There was a thread about getting this feature added a year ago but the enhancement was not on the priority list.

I’m SO glad it got added.

My side bar has the following short-code now:

    [better_recent_comments number=”20″ format=”<{author}> commented on {post} : {comment} {date}” date_format=”F j, Y” post_type=”any” post_status=”any”]

If you want to “blend” in comments left on normal posts with comments left on media, you need the “any” value on both post_type and post_status.

If you use “inherit” on the post_status, you will lose comments on posts/pages.

    Hi, @ashkelamy .

Thanks for chiming in and for using Better Recent Comments. I’m glad to hear the plugin’s new post_type shortcode option is helpful! I appreciate the tips you shared.

    Best regards,
