• When the media file name is start with non-English characters, such as Chinese or Japanese.

The File Name box in media page is empty, “file name or extension is missing” message is shown above the empty box.

If the media file name is start with English character first, the File Name box display correctly.

Let take an example, assume “###” are non-English Chars, and “ABC” are English Chars.

1, File Name: “ABC ###.jpg” will display whole name correctly.
2, File Name: “### ABC.jpg” will show as ABC.jpg in the file name box, ### is missing.
    3. File Name: “###.jpg” will show empty box, with “file name or extension is missing” message.

I’ve tested a file with the name starting with Japanese characters and everything worked correctly, I think that in your installation there may be a conflict between plugins.

Can you tell me which plugins are active on your server?

I encounter the same problem with files whose names are in Hebrew
This problem happened to me when ‘Sanitize filenames’ was off and there was a space in the file name
