In Google Webmasters Structured Data – Share# is showing at top of articleBody. It looks like Google is picking up the share counts before the Article body when top of article shares are enabled. Is there a way to move Shareaholic before the Article Schema?

This will not show up when doing a live data test only in the Google Webmasters Structured Data when you select an Article.

Here is a mocked-up example of the problem:

Article (markup: schema.org) > Page details
    https://www.testsite.com/testpage/
    Crawled: 2/21/15
Data only shows detected fields and may be different than live data.

  • Hi @laserjobs,

Thanks for the info! Have you tried using the Shareaholic shortcodes? With shortcodes, you can move the Shareaholic canvas anywhere you want. In order to do this, you will need to go to Shareaholic.com. Let me know!

    Thanks,

Yes I can use a shortcode in my theme but for now I tried turning off the share counts to see if that fixes the issue. The big question is why is Google picking up the share counts in the first place.

    Hi @laserjobs,

Thanks for the info! I’ve escalated this issue to our engineers to take a look at. Once I get an answer, I will be sure to keep you posted. Hang tight!

    Thanks,
    Mary Anne

    Hi @laserjobs,

Thanks for waiting! Do you mind giving us steps on how to reproduce this issue? We’d like to better understand how Google Webmaster structured data works. If we can understand that, then we can see why Google is doing this.

    Thanks for your help!

    To reproduce:
Set Above Post Share buttons with Share counts

Go to Google Webmaster Tools at:
    https://www.google.com/webmasters/

    Select “Search Appearance”
    Then “Structured Data”
    Select a “Page URL”
    Check “articleBody:” for 0Share0Share0Share….

    Hi @laserjobs,

Thanks for the helpful info! The page in your screenshot indicates that it was last crawled on 2/23/2015. Can you move the share buttons above the article then have Webmaster tool recrawl the page?

    Thanks!

Just to let you know I turned off the share counts and I am still getting the same issue which is strange. You would think that with the share counts disabled this would fix the problem but Google is still picking something up.

Please take a look and I will get with my theme designer to move the sharaholic buttons above the schema.

    Hi @laserjobs,

Thanks for the screenshot! I was just told by my engineers that even if you disable the share counts the “0Share” will still appear. Your options are to either remove the share buttons from above the post, or move the share buttons off the article of the body using shortcodes. Another option would be to use a share button theme that does not have the words “share” on them. Hopefully this information helps! And please let me know if you have any questions about this. ??

    Thank you,
    Mary Anne
