    Hello, David,
I just tested the MLA metadata mapping feature at the same time as activating the Imsanity add-on to shrink the image while uploading an oversized image. Metadata mapping does not work in this case on my site.
If I disable shrinking during upload in Imsanity and use the Resize button in the media library in the Imsanity column, the saved metadata will be preserved.

I tried the same thing on a test server and it works correctly there… So I don’t understand here at all. Any idea what it could be? Does it depend on the order of plugin activation? Once I decat Imsanity and WordPress takes care of changing the oversized image, the metadata mapping using MLA works correctly.
I am using Imagemagick in CLI mode and I see notice, that has been used for scale. Fortunately, I don’t necessarily need Imsanity because WordPress shrinks the images anyway.

    Thanks, bye,
    Jirka

Thanks for your question and for bringing Imsanity to my attention.

I installed Imsanity and ran a quick test. On my system the mapping rules are working, just as they are on your “test system”. I do not know why your other system is failing, but I do not think the “order of plugin activation” is a likely issue.

You could have a look at the error log to see if it contains any clues. You can navigate to the Settings/Media Library Assistant Debug tab and scroll down to view the log.

I will leave this topic unresolved for now in case you can provide additional details that will help me investigate further.

I have enabled the WP and MLA debug to level 16, but after uploading a new image with metadata with the Imsanity plugin active, nothing was logged and the metadata was not transferred to WP. I also don’t see an error log on the FTP. I use WPML on the live site and don’t have it on the test site, theoretically it could also come into play after it duplicates the media records when uploading. I will try to activate it on the test site, but it will take more time to configure it.

Thanks for your update and for the additional testing. Thanks as well for alerting me to the WPML use.

I have run some tests on my WPML test site and have reproduced your issue. I will investigate further and post an update here when I have progress to report.

I regret that I was too quick to report that I reproduced your issue; my IPTC/EXIF configuration had the “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when adding new media” box unchecked. After checking that box and the “Enable IPTC/EXIF Mapping when updating media metadata” box I am able to upload new files with Imsanity active and mapping rules are running normally. I assume you have both of those boxes checked on your site.

There are several ways to upload new files to the Media Library. Can you tell me the specific steps you follow for your uploads? I want to make sure I am following the same steps in my testing.

Finally, could you rerun your test after setting the MLA Reporting value to “0x13” (without the quotes). That writes MLA-specific messages to the log for some of the “AJAX” functions such as bulk edit updates and mapping rule execution.

I look forward to any additional details you can provide. Thanks for your patience and your help.

It has been six weeks since my last post in this topic. I assume you have found a solution for the problem you experienced.

I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you are still experiencing the problem and have additional information that will help me investigate further. Thank you.
