• I must not be the only one who is annoyed at the utterly rubbish search facility on this site.

It just consists of a single query to pull everything from the database in whatever order it fancies for anything that contains the word you are after.

    Searching for a plugin say.
Can you sort the returned results in rating order, compatibility order, updated order. Nope, you just get a list of xxxx’s in any order and very difficult to go through to see ehat is of use or what is utterly out of date.

WordPress is a great wonderful product but with justa few order statements in the search SQL would benefit everyone as you can not search page after page of loosely related plugins.

It would be nice if this could be achieved.

For example search for widget returns 5590 plugins and how can you go through that many to find something you like/need, also having a better search would help developers get their product out there

  • Totally agree.

No doubt I have posted queries that many others have posted, because I’ve no way of finding their posts!

I want to search for a particular problem within a particular plugin, but all I get are 30+ pages of queries in chronological order only.

It would be so easy to make WordPress so much better, but the forum is just thrown to the dogs. That also prompts developers to ignore this forum & provide their own, which of course is edited for their commercial interests, and it also means people cannot provide solutions to others with similar problems.

    You could fix this tomorrow.

The search is bad, but it’s not the case that it is wrong to ask or answer the same question.

It is also incorrect that people cannot provide solutions to problems. Just open a new thread and post it. Spreading more solutions over the forums actually increases their findability.
