Impressions Drop-off in GSC

    Hello John,

    I hope you’re well. I’ve noticed over the last few days that our site impressions have dropped off a lot in GSC and I’ve been trying to work out why. There are no manual actions against us and there are no significant backlinks lost. I’ve been digging around in GSC and I’ve got various redirects set up, and I wanted to ask, does Google penalize you if you have a lot of redirects? It’s the only thing I can think of. I thought it was a good idea to have redirects instead of 404s, but maybe not. Anyway, if you could please help me clarify my understanding that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    I can’t speak for what Google does. However, redirects are a standard part of the web and it would be very unlikely this would cause any issue unless you have long redirect chains (one redirect leading to many other redirects).
