• Hello,

A freelance I hired did a mistake with WPML.
He duplicated all my content 2 times.
I deleted the biggest part but I still have some pictures that I need to delete.

And when I delete an image, it seems that it is not completely deleted.

For example, I have an image named Telephone-Xiaomi-Redmi-9A-Bleu-1.jpg (the “-1” here is because I rank my image to know in which order to put them).
I have 3 times this image and I don’t which one is attached to the product so I delete them 3 and I upload a new one to replace it.

But even if I deleted the 3 images and cleared the cache, when I add the new image, its name is now Telephone-Xiaomi-Redmi-9A-Bleu-1-1.jpp. The second “-1” is here because it seems that WordPress find at least another image with the name Telephone-Xiaomi-Redmi-9A-Bleu-1.jpg even if like you saw I deleted them all. Here is the image for another product : https://ibb.co/Z2SpDZP

You can see that on this video : https://the97shop.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Image-bug.mp4

Would you know why WordPress thinks that there is still an image named like that whereas I already deleted them all ?

    Thanks

  • Did you clear your trash bin box? also you can check your cPanel/Hosting Control Panel trash bin, It seems to be stored somewhere, usually, when something is deleted it is stored in the trash bin.

I have to watch your video, usually, when you upload an image, WordPress copies it in a few versions, for example, thumbnail, 1024×1024, full, etc.
Now if you delete one, you will still get a few more copies of it, which you can get by logging into cPanel/Hosting Panel (not WP dashboard) and then got o file manager wp-content> uploads> number (upload month number ).

    Hi @hippow
Sorry for the trouble. You may use Media Cleaner plugin to find the duplicate images and remove. It’ll search and find which image isn’t used on any page, post, or product, then it’ll ask for your permission to delete one by one or in bulk.

After trying this out, let me know how that goes! ??

    Hello,

Thanks for the tips but it is not about finding the duplicate content.
It is about once I deleted all images with the name “Alpha” (for example), when I add another image named “Alpha”, WordPress will rename it “Alpha-1” like if there was already another image called “Alpha”, whereas I already deleted them all.

    Hello,

I am coming back because I really need to fix that problem.

I made a new video so you can understand better the problem : https://www.loom.com/share/23feaee17d094eaeab428f4c58778eb5

    I cannot delete the images.

Could you please help me to fix that ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

I advanced a little bit but the problem is still unsolved unfortunately.

It seems that when I delete an image through WordPress, it is deleted in the media library but not on the FTP like you can see on this new video : https://www.loom.com/share/7957ef52ecb044f38ea90ab67fb0cc79

It is only when I delete manually the files in the FTP that I can add the image called “Alpha” without WordPress adding an “-1” at the end.

So do you know why, deleting on WordPress doesn’t delete the files on the FTP ?

    Thanks
