Impossible to add links in image caption using gallery after WP update

  • Hi there,

    I update WordPress from 5.4.2 to 5.5.1.

    I used to be able to insert a link in the caption of an Image within a gallery.

    After the update, when I save the post with the gallery containing the link in the caption, the link disappears.

    Did something change with the new releases?

    I’m using a custom theme and the Classic Editor (v. 1.6).

  • Problem appears to be wider, with html in captions. I have a site which needs <span> tags in image captions, which saved fine until latest update. Now the caption just disappears when I save the gallery, unless I take the html out. At present hacking it in directly into the database, but it’s time-consuming and ugly.

    Theme: Customised Responsive Pro v2 (child)
    Wordpress: 5.5.1
    Editor: Classic 1.6 (annoyingly – need to nag & train my client!)
