Importing WP SQL Data
-
I had an old version of WordPress installed into a Xoops CMS website that was adapted to work as a module inside of Xoops. This modularized version of WordPress is called Xpress and the version is 2.05 which “I think” translates to a real WP version. But I ma not absolutely sure of that.
Anyway…For reasons I will not go into here I had to upgrade and made the decision to try a new standalone version / installation.
Now I want to get my 2 years of posts, comments, views and category data into the new WordPress installation’s database.
The MySQL Tables that I have critical data in are”
wp_posts
wp_comments
wp_categories
wp_ post2cat
wp_viewsI have tried a number of different export / import procedures from phpMyAdmin from old tables to new tables and I get a variety of unsuccessful results.
If I am successful at all importing, for example the wp_posts table data, I get a successful message in phpMyAdmin but the data does not show up in the blog. Nor do I see it in WP admin. Other times I have see the data in WP Admin it seems to break the WP installation as home page returns a data not found error message
I have tried Export / Import from old tables to new ones, I have tried CVS as well as trying to use the file from the backup plugin in WP but there does not seem to be any import functionality with that plugin.
Nothing seems to do it. I have perfumed export /imports before but it was a LONG time ago. I really hope that I am just missing something.
This is a popular blog with lot’s of posts, comments and google links to us that would be devastating to lose. I would be VERY GREATFUL for some expert assistance.
Thanks so much – Jody
