Importing Static Content
-
So I just picked up WordPress after a prolonged absence from the blogosphere and I’m quite impressed. It picked up all my old Blogger posts with no problems, except that I then had to go through by hand, categorizing all the old stuff and even giving titles to posts from the time when I didn’t even use titles. But enough of that.
While reading through one of the support forums, I came across someone asking about putting WP within a static page and the suggestion was made: just move your static content into WP. I have static content that I was hosting before, and I like the idea of moving all into the WP system.
My question is, what’s the best way to do that? Some of the material I’d like to move is from a good number of years ago, before I had ever done any blogging at all. Should I backdate everything to the actual date of writing, or the date of publication? Also, I’d like to be able to set up an index page of sorts for some of my content, so that readers could quickly skim through a list of titles before choosing what to read. Is there an easy way to do that through the WP category system?
Last but not least, an unrelated question that’s been floating around in my head, and I might as well throw it out while I’m posting: has anyone developed a plugin/hack that enables a toggle button (like the standard +/- box) for viewing subcategories?
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer any of those questions.
Andrew
