Importing posts – with images

  • There seems to be some conflicting info floating around about this so I thought a fresh question might be appropriate.

    A friend of mine is closing their blog and I offered to host all their posts. So, I’m planning to export them from their site, then run an import on mind, adding an author in the process. Simple enough, but what’s the deal with their images? Since their site will die, I need to import the images to mine.

    Is there a foolproof way to do this? I know I can do a great big manual thing and some kind of find/replace, but there must be something out there that’ll help, eh?

  • I think you can use the WordPress Export & Import to host their posts. While importing the XML, select import media and attachments so that the files are also copied over. This should be simple enough without having to worry about conflicting keys/IDs.

    Yes, the manual DB way would be quite difficult and long drawn.

    It didn’t work!

    I checked the box, that said “import media and attachments” and the bloody thing seems to have completely ignored it!

    What in the world could have happened? Should I delete all these posts and start again?

    I’m having a similar issue.

    I’ve done this more than several times already. In the past, I was able to export from wordpress.com and import into the new site.

    Previously, I have been able to import all images doing this. But recently the images are not transferring.

    i did read on another thread that there is a trick now, that you must export EVERYTHING from the wordpress.com account, in order for it to load the images. If you just export the blog posts, it won’t carry them over.

    But on the import side. Previously, checking the box for ‘import attachments’ worked fine. But now I continue to have issues with this.

    Not sure why it’s not working all of a sudden.

    Would love someone to shed some light on this topic.
