We recently did a bulk import of posts into a client site. This triggered the send email function to subscribers. You can imagine the panic/confusion that caused as some of the notices were for network maintenance that were years old. We’ve now disabled the plugin to ensure it doesn’t happen on the next import of posts.

This is mostly expected behaviour depending on the import process. New content on your site is expected to trigger an email unless the import process bypasses the core WordPress hooks that Subscribe2 links to.

As you’ve already found, deactivating Subscribe2 while you carry out the import is the simplest way to ensure notifications are not generated.
