Importing only specific tables from a mySQL backup

  • I recently upgraded from WordPress 2.1 to 2.9.2. I used Starsailor’s export plugin to create a WXR file and this seemed to have worked, but when I looked more closely, a lot of data had been lost, including all the comments and the few pages I had created.

    I would like to restore only the comments and pages from a backup I have, but I’m worried that moving and then merging individual tables will corrupt my new installation. Does anybody think merging the tables will be a problem? Any suggestions as to how I should go about it (I’m using phpmyadmin)? Will I need to do anything after merging the tables, so that WP ‘recognizes’ them?
