• Read all the old posts on archiving and used PHPMyAdmin to download my old WP database. Now when I installed WP in a new directory and uploaded my backup all the old data is not accessible.

All the links on my new WP home page are looking for the old directory. 404 errors all over the place. I try pointing the browser to the new location, it goes there and no category or blog entries are there.

How can I upload my old categories and posts without all this havoc and old directory pointing? Do my posts still exist in my downloaded backup somewhere?

    Thanks, W

  • Let’s clarify what’s going on.
Did you move your WP install from on server to another?
Or did you move it only to a different directory on the same site?
    Not clear…

I “moved” it to a different directory on the same site. The old blog was WP version 2.0.1 and was located in a sub directory from the top level. I installed the latest WP version 2.0.4 in the top-level directory and that’s where I want the new blog – but with my old posts.

In that case why did you have to touch the database? – Wrong move.

If you are moving only the WP files on the same server – you don’t need to mess around with the database!
And next time ask, or better read, before you start…
