Actually in this case the URL itself is contained in the eventimage element.

You’d import this data like so: {eventimage[1]}

Yes I can actually see the image when using {eventimage[1]} while clicking ‘Preview & Test’ and conducting ‘Test Image Import’.

The issue is that the images aren’t downloaded into wordpress to be used as featured image. (i.e. the image aren’t downloaded from the source to be seen and used from ‘Media’)

Any thoughts?

When using the image preview your browser is fetching the image and during your import it’s your server fetching it. In order to isolate the issue, try running your import on our testing servers: https://www.wpallimport.com/try/

Note: The testing servers come with the Pro version of WP All Import installed.

So I run the same file on your demo server and the results are that this time the images were downloaded and were set as featured image. Pretty much what I was aiming for.

As you suggested,
How do I isolate the issue? Does this experiment means that my file will work only on the Pro version or there is something else I should look into?

Yes, unless you are importing WooCommerce products you would need the Pro version of WP All Import in order to import images.
