• Ok I feel like a complete idiot because what I’m doing is obviously wrong but I have no idea what to do about it.

I am trying to get the ICS Calendar working. The installation instructions basically say to download and activate it, and then just put this text on the page:

    [show-ics-events]

But obviously that doesn’t work, the page just shows that text.

So what else am I supposed to do? Sorry I know this is a totally stupid question but I’ve never worked with calendars before.

    THANKS for any help.

    Laura S.

Update: I put the .ics file in my root directory and configured the plugin to look there to find it … and changed the location of the [show-ics-events] from the calendar page *template* to the body of the *page* itself … but so far no luck.

    Thanks,
    Laura S.

Another update. Instead of a static .ics file, I now have the plugin configured to get the data from a url. Not like I was expecting that to really change anything, but I’m kind of dismayed, where is the supportive WP community when you need it?

The easiest way is to set up a google account and create a calendar for use with this app. In Google admin area, select your calendar and go to settings. Under the Calendar details tab, you’ll see an area called Calendar Address. Click on the iCal button. It will bring up a popup that will give the address of your calendar.

Go back to your ICS Calendar admin area and paste that address into the area “URL to ICS File(s)”. It’s near the top. Scroll down a few lines and select “Save changes.” At that point, it will import your calendar.

    Hope this helps!

@lauras2009: Did you ever solve this problem? I’m having the exact same issue. And I’ve tried everything. I’ve checked and rechecked @hlwilson3rd’s suggestion of adding the ICS file, to no avail. Please help if you’ve solved it!

I’ve been having issues too and just stumbled on the solution. I’m feeding this from a Google Calendar

The first thing that I did wrong was to add the XML line, make sure that you are linking to the ICS. I also changed basic.ics to full.ics

Then I noticed that the calendar I was trying to access was not set to Public – I was sure that I had set it, so worth double checking.

I’ve got 4 ‘diaries’ running from the same single google calendar and with these changes the plugin works beautifully.

If only I could add template tags to the sidebar….
