I’m still dreaming, thinking that I can import my Grey Matter posts. Here’s the message I get when trying to import:
    The importer is running…
    importing users…
Oops, can’t find any database named here !
I don’t know what database it’s looking for.
Right now my wordpress is in a subdirectory called https://www.jackiefg.com/blog. When I used Grey Matter my blog was in a subdirectory called https://www.jackiefg.com/journal and the posts were saved in the ‘journal/archives’. I had saved all my cgi files into my main cgi-bin.
So am I using the wrong paths or something when trying to import? I have it like this:
Path to GM files: /hsphere/home/jackiefg/jackiefg.com/cgi-bin <–my path
    Path to GM entries: /hsphere/home/jackiefg/jackiefg.com/journal/archives
Last entry number: 0000403.cgi <– do I need the .cgi? I’ve tried it with and without
What am I doing wrong, oh great gurus? Do I need to modify the file or anything?

The .cgi isn’t needed on the end of the entry #.
Have you got WP up and running without GM–i.e., db’s created, etc.?
Is the GM files path right?

My WordPress blog is up and running (sans old entries in Grey Matter). Database has been created and the GM path I put was my cgi-bin (which was where I had uploaded all my gm.cgi files and the other path I put in was where all the archives were saved.
I’m presuming that they wanted the path (and not the url) that I had put above. And I tried with and without the .cgi extension and got the same message.
    What up with that?

I had the same GM importing problems as you and after a few days of trying different ideas I finally gave up ?? I would still love to convert to WordPress if the GM import script worked for me.
