Importing from Tumblr other than the main Tumblr

The plugin asks which site you want to import from.

Correct. But I have several Tumblr sites off of my main account. I can only access the main account, not the sub accounts. Any ideas?

I don’t understand what you mean by “sub-accounts”. You can clear the information and log in and authorize as a user that has access to the specific site that you want to import, but if you don’t have access to the site, then it won’t show up and can’t be imported.

Tumblr works similar to Google+ Pages and/or Facebook pages. I can have my own Facebook, but be made admin of any number of other Pages.

I have my own personal tumblr, but I’ve also been made an admin for a company Tumblr.

I do have access to the site, but when you create the Tumblr “app” necessary to interact with the WordPress Plugin, it defaults you to the login’s main blog.

The plugin actually gets the list of “blogs” available from the Tumblr API. If you have some level of access to a blog and it’s not showing up for you in the list that the plugin shows you, then the API doesn’t know about it and you can’t import it using that particular user’s account.

There’s no real way to change this, the importer is necessarily limited to what Tumblr’s API is capable of sending it. If you want to access a different blog, you’ll need to authorize as a user with that level of access. The “app” doesn’t actually matter, you can use the same app to access any blog, but you need to log in as a user who has ownership over that blog to be able to get the data from it.

Clarification: The “app” doesn’t actually matter, because it’s connected to where you’re importing to, not which blog or user that you’re importing from.

When you create an app on Tumblr, you put in a “Default Callback URL”. That URL has to match where you’re running the importer. The app is connected to that specific place. It’s used for authorization.

But what “blogs” you see as being available to import isn’t connected to the app at all, it’s connected to who you log into Tumblr as. If you get the username/password of a different user and connect as them, using the same app you already made, then you’d see their blogs and be able to import those instead.

So leave the app alone, and put the same key and secret back in. But then, when you do the authorization step, login as the user who has access to the blog you need to import. Then you’ll see their blogs and can import them.
