• I am hoping there is a way to import my smugmug galleries into my WP.org website as I am leaving smugmug. I found one thing on the internet in my search and I’m hoping there might be something more robust out there I don’t know about. Can anyone help me with this?

  • Hello,

If this project is still pending (I know two weeks of waiting for a response can be nauseating!), here’s what I did recently to convert a client’s Smugmug site to WordPress:

    1) Downloaded all Smugmug galleries into a zip file (awesome Smugmug offers this feature)

    2) Re-built the site in WordPress (I used a custom theme and the Envira Gallery plugin to handle the photography-specific stuff)

    3) Imported the the zip file containing the photos we downloaded from Smugmug. In our case we used Envira Gallery plugin’s “Zip Importer” addon… but I believe NextGen and other major WordPress gallery plugins allow you to import zip files natively or via an addon.

Again, the main steps are to grab a zip of your photos from Smugmug and use any WordPress gallery plugin that allows you to import a zip file into a gallery.

While there may be direct Smugmug to WordPress “converters” out there (I didn’t search at all), I like that this approach gives you the creative freedom to re-build the site with any WordPress theme… and doesn’t force you to live with any legacy stuff from Smugmug.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks George. Have already done that. My issue at this point is figuring out why the heck I can’t seem to customize things such as something so simple as making a header bigger to fit my title and tagline. But I realize that is a question for the creator of the theme I bought. Thanks though for this step by step process with the zip files. Appreciate it

Yeah, that’s definitely a theme issue. And for a commercial theme, your vendor is the best place to turn to for help.

But for basic CSS customizations, if you’re able to share your link, we might be able to help you (especially if you’re not getting any TLC from your theme’s vendor).
