Importing fixed length text

  • I’d like to import fixed-length text files, where each field starts and ends at the same place in every record. Is there a way to do so in WP, or do I have to covert to CSV beforehand?

    It would depend what plugin you’re using to do the import. Typically, they want XML, XLS, or CSV.

    Yes, I’m aware they normally want that. Unfortunately, that’s not how I’m getting the data.

    So open the data with your favorites spreadsheet and save it back out as a CSV file.

    It’s a bit of a pain when the file is updated regularly and has more lines than most spreadsheets are capable of handling (inventory updating, over a million SKUs).
