Importing data that has custom keywords

Greetings from Jersey,

I’m trying to find a way to import data into WP. I haven’t found much luck searching the forums so here we go:

I’d like to have some flexibility of how my information gets posted to screen. SO I’m trying to modify my posts to call up the database (keywords specifically) and show my post info. Confused? Here’s an example:

I have a book called “How to Foo” by John Smith that was written in 1979. Instead of importing RSS with the formatting embedded I’d like to use keywords to associated the data. By using the embedded formatting I’m really just make static pages.

By making keywords:
Title and associating How To Foo
Author and John Smith
Year and 1979

I can then tweak out my template to display the title in italics or change it to an underline on the fly because I haven’t done anything in the posts’ data row in the db. I can also make a nice neat URL to amazon (for instance) that can get a really close match to my book.

So I really need help with this. I know I can jump ship to another CMS but I’m comfortable with WP and appreciate all the support out there for it.
